Welcome!
We are thrilled to introduce you to our new blog! We have created this platform with the aim of providing a space where we can share our research, ideas, and insights with you around the multi-faceted topic of cognitive burden and its disproportionate impact on women.
First, what is cognitive labor? It’s the mental effort involved in managing your work, relationships, a family, and a household. It includes all of the details you manage throughout the day - to-do lists, scheduling, decision making, and communicating with family and friends. This cognitive labor is invisible, constantly present in your brain, and is often unrecognized. We define the perpetual stress associated with managing this labor as cognitive burden. We recognize that your cognitive burden can lead to exhaustion and burnout, especially when it goes unnoticed and unappreciated.
Our small but mighty team consists of two writers with very different backgrounds and their own unique perspective on this subject that they are both passionate about. We will be covering a wide range of topics including the scientific research behind cognitive burden, the psychology surrounding society’s gender norms, and our own research as we work towards creating a solution. We hope to inspire you to recognize the gender driven differences in cognitive burden and how they impact your relationship with yourself, your partner, and those around you. Our intention is to spark conversations about how we can all work to improve the management of this burden going forward.
We are committed to delivering high-quality content that is informative, entertaining, and thought-provoking. To do so we will deliver bite-sized information on relevant topics that are easy to digest and can fit into your busy lives. Our goal is to create a community where we can learn from each other and work WITH you to build a long term solution for managing cognitive burden in your life.
That’s right, WITH you - as we embark on this new journey, we are excited to have you along with us. We look forward to bringing you engaging content and building a community of women (though men are welcome too!) who are passionate about learning and improving the ways in which we manage our cognitive burdens in everyday life. Along the way, we want to get to know you. Please feel free to leave us a comment or reach out with any of your thoughts or experiences. We will always make time to hear about this topic in a world that rarely gives it any credit. Cognitive burden shouldn’t be carried in silence and we hope to give it a voice.
